Children are the future of our nation and children's education is crucial to China's future development. Children's periodicals, as their intimate partners and an important educational medium, should play their educational function to the full length and guide children in the healthy direction.Based on a thorough investigation and analysis of the present situation of children's periodicals, the paper points out the existing problems of children's periodicals and provides measures to make full optimization of these periodicals in the field of educational function. The thesis is made up of four parts:Part One: introductory remarks. This part aims at a survey of the contemporary children's periodicals. Then, analyses its study value and method.Part Two: the educational function of children's periodicals. This part aims at a brief definition and classification of children's periodicals are given, the content of the educational function of children's periodicals is presented.Part Three: an analysis of the existing educational problems of contemporary children's periodicals in the field of realization educational function in modern China. After an definite ample investigation has been conducted, the basic situation of the readership of children's periodicals in China is analyzed, the educational function of children's periodicals is analyzed and evaluated, and several weak points in the field of realization educational function are made clear: the obscurity of the guideline on children's ontological status in their growth;the inharmoniousness between the overall situation of children's periodicals and children'seducational demand;the backwardness of the form and content of children's periodicals when compared with children's reading thirst.Part Four: how to optimize and broaden the educational function of children's periodicals. This part emphasize on inquisition about relative counter measure and deals with the formal analysis and expectation of the developmental trend of children's periodicals. It includes the need for children's development in all sides, the requirement for joy made by children, and the necessity to train competent editors for children's periodicals and meet the requirement for children's healthy education.The thesis analyzes children's periodicals from the perspective of education, and thus breaks through the traditional method of text analysis. The outcome of my research is my new point of view on how to develop the educational function of children's periodicals.
