Grid resource monitoring is foundation of dynamic load balancingstrategies, and it offers performance data for users to troubleshoot and analyseperformance of system. It also can be invoked by other applications to decreasethe complexity of programming and increase the portability of applications. Butwhen grid tends towards practicality from research of basic theory, its users putforward advanced requests on grid monitoring. For example, users want torealize the condition of resources. Therefore, this paper primarily discussesuser-oriented grid resource monitoring, designs a system of user-oriented gridresource monitoring service, which assists users to obtain all resourceinformation with Web.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic theory about grid and grid resourcemonitoring. This part mostly discusses current popular technology of grid ––Globus and typical example of grid monitoring –– MDS, studies the GridMonitoring Architecture (GMA) and monitoring services in several gridsubjects.Based on this, a architecture of user-oriented resource monitoring servicesystem is given. Its aim is: (1) to provide all information that uses need;(2) toafford convenient access of this information;(3) that all system must beindependent of platforms and locations, this will guarantee users to monitorcomputers in any locations and with computers which work with differentoperating system.The system of user-oriented resource monitoring service is built on Globusplatform. It deploys services of data collect, storage, search and visualize, andoptimizes them using the technology of file handling and multi-thread in Java.This system suits the grid environment and is good at low delay, lowperformance affection, scalability and manageability.Finally, this paper implements a simple system of resource monitoringservice to monitor all computing nodes in grid which is built in lab.
