The traditional laser marking controller based on ISA bus or PCI bus has increased the cost and volume of the controller and decreased simultaneously the stability of the controller due to be used together with computer. The laser marking controller based on the singlechip control is low cost and can run steadily, but the limited storage capacity and the low running speed restrict its application range. In order to solve these two problems, a new type of galvanometer-scanning laser marking controller based on USB is designed in this thesis via combining the USB transfers and the singlechip control. It has both the computer advantages of high running speed and strong dispose ability and the singlechip virtues of low cost and high fieldwork reliability. It is another USB technology application in the remote control domain. The principle of laser marking, the development actualities of laser marking technology, and the compose of laser marking system are introduced firstly. The design idea of laser marking controller based on USB is put forward after analyzing the feasibility of USB technology applying to laser marking, the deficiency of current laser marking controller, and the user different requirement. And the controller use function of online and offline is illuminated briefly. After the USB technology is introduced briefly, the general hardware frame of the controller and the circuit design of function modules are illuminated detailedly. In addition, the protocol of the USB communications between the controller and the computer is introduced in detail, which includes the format and transfers'types of marking data, the sequence of data input and output, the vendor device requests of control signal, and the USB transfers process between controller and computer. Finally, the flow charts of the controller firmware frameworks and function modules are illuminated briefly. The test that the controller is used in factual laser marking system has proved that it realizes the anticipative function and achieves satisfactory effect.
