Ye Dehui And Philology

Ye Dehui is a famous scholar, bibliophile, book compiler and philologist in the latter stage of Qing Dynasty. The books he collected are up to 300,000 volumes, which is a great achievement at that time; The books he published are up to 160 kinds , including his personal writings and some comparatively rare books, the contents involved include Confucian classics , historiography , recreation, edition catalogue and so on. At the same time, he utilized his own abundant collected books, studied catalogue , edition , textual criticism, and collected lost books. Ye Dehui got great achievements in Philology and his thoughts brought a far-reaching influence to Philology.This thesis will research on and summarize Ye's achievements in philology with six parts.Part 1 Introduces the library of Ye Dehui, mainly introduces the purpose ,the contents, the source and the result of his library.Part 2 Makes a simple introduction and appraisal to Ye's writings , summarizes Ye's achievements in book compiling.Part 3 Analyses Ye's contribution in bibliography, introduces the catalogues Ye Dehui ever gathered, published, revised and complied. Summarizes his success in library classifying methods and compiling catalogues.Part 4 Summarizes Ye's function in publication, analyses his thoughts and purpose in publication.Part 5 Introduces Ye's experiences and techniques in identifying rare edition.Part 6 Synthetically analyses the background of his achievements, inheriting the achievements of forefathers, his library and friends' help, and firm base in literature are main factors.
