Miao Quansun (1844-1919) is a well-known historian, bibliophile, publisher, bibliognost, document compiler and philologist. Miao's thoughts are profound, and he was famous in the literary world. Fouthermore, Miao got great achievement in Philology and his thoughts brought a far-reaching influence to Philology.This thesis will research on and summarize Miao's thoughts in Philology with six parts.Part Ⅰ summarizes Miao's life briefly and analyses the engendering process of his thoughts in Philology.Part Ⅱ summarizes Miao's achievements in document compiling and discusses his ideas and methods in the compiling of chorography and inscriptions.Part Ⅲ researches on the sources, the scattering and disappearing of Miao's library, and analyses his aims and characteristics of Miao's library.Part Ⅳ summarizes his bibliography and characteristics of Miao's publishing, and analyses his purpose and condition of Miao's publishing.Part Ⅴ summarizes Miao's achievement in bibliography, and discusses his methods of bibliography.Part Ⅵ introduces Miao's experiences and techniques in bibliotics, and analyses the reasons why he is a philologist.
