Actual hard disk data security measures focus more on password or software encryption. These techniques themselves are unsafety, they can not carry out security in the real sense, while hardware encryption can keep from this problem. To achieve the security of hard disk data, this article aims at password integration technique and chip design, which provide the user with the solution of hard disk data on real time. Products of this project are embedded with encryption/decryption module in the IDE-IDE bridge chip between mainboard and hard disk. The keywords are prearranged in the outer radio chip. According to the given keywords, On real time, data encryption is carried out while writing disk, and data real time decryption is carried out while reading disk, under the preset algorithm of hardware encryption/decryption . The design is combined with three kinds of new ideas. In this article, it was adopt symmetric encryption DES (data encryption standard, DES) algorithm, To achieve higher security, we have developed triple DES algorithm, 3-DES is an upgrading of DES. To achieve higher safety, three keywords are set different from each other. Thus, in fact it equals encrypting with a 168-bit keyword. In hardware framework, there are only logical calculus and table referring calculus throughout the process of encrypting/decrypting and keywords generating. These features insure the high speed design of FPGA. It uses FPGA as algorithm to design ideal archetype carrier, and minimize the risk of tape-out, which prepares well for products marketing. In dealing with the keyword, we use radio chip to upload, while transmission between keyword and FPGA is compatible with two kinds of transmission pattern—Host parallel interface and UART. At the same time the design according to ATA133 protocol, which does not only carry out PIO data transmission, but also is compatible with UDMA. This insures the high speed of hard disk data read and storage on real time.
