Contactless integrated card are a new technology in IC field;it is the result of combining radio frequency identification and IC. It has characteristic of fast operation, strong anti-jamming, working method of contactless, high security, various applications. Now Contactless integrated cards have wide market and absolute predominance in areas of automatic charging, identification and electrical purse. Card readers of contactless integrated card are the pivotal device in application systems of contactless IC. Designing a card reader of contactless IC whose distance of reading is 20mm to 100mm;it not only can read card of TYPE A and TYPE B, but also can do high level operations to card of TYPE A. It can be used in control and electrical consumption, such as sells in eatery, electrical tickets in transport and underground railway.First of all, several aspects of contactless IC are be introduced, including characteristic, classes, international standards, key technologies, representative applications and trend of development;some interior characteristic, including three steps of authentications and organization of memories are be introduced in details. The ISO 14443 protocols are explained, including physical and electric characteristic and the anti-collision flows of TYPE A and B. The introducing of hard wares are included power supply, LED control, BEEP control, RS 232 interface and antenna of card reader. MF RC531 is one of the most important components of this design,.its characteristic and some registers having something to do with reading cards. The card reader can read two types cards by setting different value.The design of soft ware is most important, at the same time it is the innovation. There are three steps in the designing of soft ware, including simply protocol card reader, multiplex protocols card reader and devices of one-card systems. They have commom parts of modules, but differenr pivots. The pivot of first step is stability and validity of reading cards, the pivot of second steps is anticollision of TYPE B, the pivot of third steps is the communications between card reader and PC, operation of values in cards,and security mechanism.
