Digital Television leads a revolution of information technology because of itsdistinct advantages. It employs advanced high capacity audio and video technologysuch as DCT(Disperse Cosine Transform) Transformation, Motion Estimation andHuffman Coding, which also promise high-quality audio and video signals. Advancedmodulation technology is applied to DTV(Digital Television) transmission system sothat transmitting high-quality signal by using limited bandwidth become possible.DTV also brings new services such as surfing on the Internet, NOVD(Near Video OnDemand), E-mail and E-business. Although EPG is not any more "novelty" there are still different concepts aboutapplications and technical implementation of EPG and it still be considered as one ofthe hot spots in the research and development of DTV. Service Information providesessential data for EPG. They are inserted into the Transport Stream as sections andtransmitted to the users by DTV transmitting channels. In this thesis, we analyseService Information and its application in EPG system. We also design EPG databaseand GUI(Graphic User Interface) by which the users can edit and implementencapsulation of SI data.We use STi5518 as STB(Set Top Box) solutions to enhance EPG functions. First,we introduce the hardware and software structure of STi5518 and give a briefintroduction of ST20. Then we elaborate how to demultiplex the SI data and design abidirection chained-list to organize the data of EPG.
