Wireless 3D Product Viewing And Customizing Based On Mobile Client

This paper presents a method and its software implementation which enables engineers and other people to view and interact with 3D CAD files using wireless phone connection with a PDA device. With the growing of wireless techniques, PDA devices can easily connect to the Internet via WLAN, GPRS, WCDMA and other 3G techniques to be implemented. The problem of insufficient computing power caused by the limited hardware on the PDA devices can be solved by the client-server mode, which performs complex computation on the workstation, and transmit the result to the PDA devices. Here, we transmit product data in the compressed HSF format from the server workstation to the client device, with a two-way data link for user interaction and system messages. Via the proposed system, one can visualize and customize his favorite 3D product wherever he is.
