| Nowadays, the network technology have been developing so fast that it has become the main means for us to get science and technology information. Science and technology journals have been transformed from paper-media into digital media, and the form of which has transformed from the original floppy disk, CDROM into current network. So the era of network has had great influence on journals industry, and it will be sure to get more and more profound.To develop themselves, it is necessary for science and technology journals to realize network. Since 1990s, the networks of biomedical journals in the world have been providing people with abundant information and intellective service, among which BMJ web site set up in 1995 is an example. However, it just began for biomedical journals to realize network in China.Researches in this aspect are relatively little at present, and which are primarily about the prospect of network foreground and arisen problems in the process of building it. Several researches reported successful cases, but there are almost no reports about present situation of web sites of biomedical journals. Objective: To evaluate and probe into the network developing status quo and trend ofbiomedical journals in China. Objects and Methods:1. Objects:1.1 The Indexed situation of medical journals in our country by the most famous and authoritative science and technology journal database (Datebase System of Wanfang and China Journal Network) in China, and PubMed and SCI network edition outside China;1.2 Investigation about some journals setting up their web sites, which includes some of biomedical journals in our country (the series journals of Chinese Medicine Academy, all biomedical journals in GuangDong province, the embodied biomedicine journals of China by SCI and its enlarged edition;1.3 The present situation of 6 internationally authoritative medicine journals (NEJM, JAMA ,Lancet, BMJ, JCI and JEM) building their web sites.2. Methods2.1 By means of various data base system and general searching engines, this research investigated the web sites of 6 internationally authoritative medicine journals and some of domestic journals, and consult some web sites of journals in GuangDong province by phones.2.2 To know the situation about their web sites, we compared insides' journals with outside's, the journals indexed by SCI and its enlarged edition with the non-embodied, Chinese medicine journals with other core's, core journals and otherwise in GuagnDong province.2.3 Combining the course in establishing the web site of Journal of First Military Medical University, we evaluate the present situation of establishing web sites in China and experience we have got, and furthermore give some advice.3.ResultsAt present, there are 3 kinds of means for paper-edition journals to realize network in China, which are making use of web sites set up by the sponsoring units, authoritative science and technology web sites, or establishing their own web sites.3.1 It is difficult for people to search literatures through the first means and little information is provided, which proves to be inconvenient for readers.3.2 In China, the second means mainly rely on Datebase System of Wanfang and China Journal Network. You can realize browsing by importing the name of the journal. Most of them can provide full articles, but the network edition lags behind the paper edition in general. These medical journals just remove part of their information into the network, and have not formed mutual printed edition and network edition.The most famous web sites outside China are network edition of PubMed and SCI, indexed by which are those that are outstanding journals in their industries. They keep ahead in setting up wet sites, which can provide abstracts, publish the networkeditions at the same time as their paper editions. Some of them even offer PDF or HTML links to full articles.3.3 At present , little medical journals in China build their independent web sites. Those embodied journals by SCI and its enlarged edition do well in building their individual web sites, and all can offer full articles and links to important searching systems. The journals includes Progress Bilchem Biophy, Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica, Cell research, Asian Journal of Andrology,Chinese Medical Journal, Science in China C: Life Science, Acta Pharmacologica Sinica: An international journal, World Journal of Gastroenterology. In GuangDong province, Cancer, Chinese Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, Journal of First Military Medical University do well in building web sites. Of all the series journals of Chinese medicine academy, only part provide searching in their database, in which, Chinese Medical Journal offers the compound searching function.3.4 As the important literature resources of biomedicine in the world, 6 internationally authoritative journals (NEJM, JAMA, Lancet, BMJ, JCI, JEM) built their independent web sites in 1993. They offer far more services than traditional paper editions, and in a way, they function as comprehensive medical web sites. 4.ConclusionIn the last several years, the science and technology journals develop fast in China, but most of them still remain at the stage that they just simply remove the information and articles into the net. So resources are not synthesized, the interactive interface are not good enough which result in not being able to attract readers .To realize network, the main problems for medical journals in our country are as follows: 1. the form of being on lines is too simple ,which has no network feature and is just the simple copy of its papier-mache. 2.With little information and feature, the content in net page is simple. 3.The net page can not be renovated, maintained and built in time. 4. It is short of intercourse between editors and readers, paier-mache and net work journals, web site and another. 5.1ntelligentized service still need to be improved. 6.The propaganda of web site need to be strengthened. 7. The sale of science and technology journals has not yet to be exploited. |
