In recent yeas, the intelligent building industry has gradually grown, as playing an essential role in this industry, building automation requires more advanced technology. The trend of building automation is standardisation and modularisation, and KNX, as the only international standard, has been drawn attention.KNX fieldbus protocol is the fourth generation technology in building control system, it has broad prospects in sharing information between building devices, energy management, improving living environment and the ability to contra the level of property management. Intelligent building is the product in the era of information, it has gradually developed with high technology. Building automation system is an integrated network that includes testing, controlling and services which are applied by the 4C technology, that is, the computer technology, control technology, communication technology and CRT. Intelligent buildings can provide people with comprehensive, high-quality, safe, comfortable and fast services, is the art of architecture and information technology.Based on the research of KNX technology, this paper compares the similarities and differences between the KNX, LonWorks and ProfiBus, provides and innovative solution for building the intelligent lighting control system in Shanghai Pudong International Airport, solves a series of issues in communication media. This paper proposes a method for constructing building automation system by KNX technology, hope that the researches and experiences can contribute to our country's building automation development.This paper covers the following aspects:1. Describes the concept of building automation technology and its current status; Compares domestic and international building automation fieldbus standards; Introduces the features of KNX protocol, applicable scenarios and its working mode.2. Demonstrates KNX protocol's main content, relevant norms, its definitions and the service primitive from the physical layer, data link layer, network layer, transport layer and application layer, respectively.3. Raised a development proposal for developing building automation products based on KNX protocol. The proposal covers development planning, software and hardware design, module testing processes and common softwares for building KNX applications.4. Introduces the project of buidling intelligent lighting control system for the station building of Shanghai Pudong Airport. Building automation can greatly increase people's quality of life, has a broad development space. By introducing the KNX protocol, this paper is aimed at absorpting foreign advanced technology and contributing to the development of industrial economy.5. Summarises the research on the KNX system and application, prospects the future of researching.
