Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an innovative automatic identification technology. Due to its characteristics of high-speed moving object recognition, multi-object recognition and non-contact recognition, it has drawn wide attention from both academic and industrial community. Information collection and processing are important parts of the RFID-based application systems. Recently, the relevant researches on RFID-based information collection and processing have made some progress. However, the existing solutions still have some problems such as power consumption and cost, which restricts the widespread application of RFID.The embedded processor has several advantages, such as low power consumption, high performance/price ratio and excellent environmental adaptability. At present, the processing capability of a high-end embedded processor is comparable to that of a low-level PC. Compared with the traditional cable communication mode, wireless communication technology has more flexibility owing to no wiring. Currently, the embedded technology and wireless communication technology are being mature. Therefore, there have been many successful relevant applications in the industrial control field, information acquisition field, etc.The paper aims at providing a new approach to solve power consumption or cost issues existing in traditional RFID-based information collection solutions, by making full use of above mentioned advantages of embedded devices and wireless communication technology. After the thorough analysis of RFID information collection theory, the paper inducts the embedded technology and ZigBee wireless communication technology, and proposes a solution of distributed RFID information collection which based on the integration of ARM and ZigBee. Then, the architecture of proposed solution is elaborated, and its technological characteristics are discussed as well. At last, the paper emphasizes on the two key technologies, embedded RFID information collection nodes and embedded RFID front-end middleware.As to the design of RFID information collection node, we first analyze RFID information collection's demands for embedded information collection node. A systematic structure of information collection node is proposed. Moreover, the construction scheme of software and hardware platform of the node system is given. On that basis, the design of node's hardware circuit and the core technologies of establishing software platform are discussed in detail. Finally, we implement the design of the embedded RFID information collection node, and give a method to build a distributed network for collecting RFID information by using ZigBee.As to the research and design of embedded RFID edge middleware(EREM), the paper first illustrates the necessity of EREM. Then proposes the software structure of EREM, and the functionalities and implementation of each module are elaborated. To solve problems of redundancy data filtering, we design an embedded RFID middleware data filtering model based on data filter. Experimental results show that the model, which can be applied to these embedded RFID edge middleware with limited hardware resources, high real-time requirement, high-accuracy and large data volume, has minimized redundant data.
