Under the guidance of the government, the dairy farming industry in the vast western region of China gradually changed from fragmentary into intensive mode, in order to achieve a large scale of dairy farming to improve efficiency, and also focus on the food safety supervision at source, so as to promote the standardization and scientific construction of dairy farming. In the large-scale farming, the dairy's daily management and disease surveillance is particularly important, Timely grasp of dairy cattle health status and production information is significant to both increase milk production and reproductive rate and promote the economic benefits of dairy farming markedly. As part of the information management system for dairy farming, this paper mainly study the dairy cattle data collection, data transmission and related system equipments design and application. The main contents and conclusions are as follows:(1) Analysis the acquisition method and means of the temperature, exercise and food intake parameters which were closely related to the cow health and production cycle, the design program of the cows' information collection of terminal node is determined based on the ZigBee Wireless Sensor Networks, including cow signs information collection node and dairy food intake data collection node. With a handheld reader, the cows individual identification would be implemented by adding the RFID technology to the terminal node.(2) Research the hardware structure of terminal nodes for cows'information collection system, then proposed the CC2430 as the core of the terminal node solution. With battery-powered, the low voltage and low power temperature sensors and vibration sensors are used in the cow signs information collection node, the food intake data collection node selects high-precision weighing sensor. Designed the CC2430 Minimum system application circuit, the sensor interface module circuit and food intake acquisition node power supply circuit, the signal processing circuit and given the terminal nodes basically test.(3) Analyzed and identified the software system design method according to the actual deployment environment based on the Z-Stack protocol stack, from the configuration of network performance including series of setting such as the network establishment and start, network mode, auto binding, dormant application to the program of user application about data collection, processing, RF transmission, which would be achieve the basic data collection of system.(4)After the node hardware and software debugging, tests are given including the system network performance, the nodes' sensor data acquisition and processing and the node power consumption, according to the tests, related hardware and software were improved and data collection of the sensor was modified, the number of requirements in the system actual deployment were solved such as the nodes portability, mobility and quantity.(5) The tests results show that the WSN gives the nodes stable and efficient management, terminal nodes can real-time, sustained, accurate sent the information for cows to the upper equipments, the nodes have small size and low power with practical and reliable fixtures, they can meet the system needs of basically cows' information collection, and have the great significance to achieve information management for dairy farming.
