RFID or radio frequency identification technology is a highly efficient data collection and identification technology. Used in logistics,transport information,health care,retail and other industries, could significantly enhance the management and operational efficiency and lower costs. RFID middleware which extend the enterprise middleware technology to the area of RFID, is a kind of software that between RFID hardware systems and RFID applications, its functions include shields the RFID equipment multiplicity and the complexity, realizes the data collection and processing, and integrates the application systems, can provide the formidable support for the backstage operational channel, enable its function to obtain maximum limit the display.This paper focuses on researching the architecture of the RFID middleware and the design and implementation of the core functions of the RFID middleware. In this paper, the RFID technology was introduced, on the characteristics of the RFID technology. Next, through the analysis of the middleware technology, we choose the J2EE technology as the primary means of the RFID middleware development. Finally, through analysis the RFID middleware functions and the structure of the typical RFID middleware applications, in this paper we put forward our distributed RFID middleware system architecture which is reader management, data collection and processing, the applications integration as the core of the system model. In this paper, RFID middleware is divided into two levels, namely, the data collection side and the management server side. The data collection side connect the RFID equipment, which is the bottom layer of the RFID middleware system, it provides a variety of equipment on the interface. The data collection side collected tag data then sent the data to the management information system of the server side for processing. Management server side is built by using the framework Struts + Hibernate, including the reader management module, information systems module, and application integration module. In the process of realization, this paper do a lot of work in some key technologies such as middleware technology, JMS(Java Message Services) technology, JMX(Java Management Extension) technology, Web Services technology, etc. The implemented system is based on the JMX, including: the reader management based on the JMX and RMI, the information system based on JMS middleware and information processing based on JMX components, and the API is compliant with the EPC Global Application Level Event protocol. Finally, we given this RFID middleware implementation of the system.This paper has realized the RFID middleware system based on the J2EE technology, has solved well the RFID middleware in the design of the key technologies problem. The RFID middleware has achieved the basic function which the middleware needs.
