Quantitative Analysis And Study On Typology Of Song Engraved Books

Song Dynasty is the golden age of publishing development in ancient China. After Tangand Five Dynasties' development, Block printing reached its maturity in Song Dynasty.Because of Song government's attention and local officials' advocation, social and economicdevelopment, technological progress and other factors, Song book publishing industry wasfilling with prosperity. Now most of books before the Tang Dynasty have been destroyedbecause of wars. Song books have been handed down more and some copies of ancient worksare also handed down by Song Dynasty. Therefore, Song Dynasty printing is great andsignificant for the ancient culture preservation.Mr. Zhang Xiumin works all year round in the National Library, discrepancies in theactual study and works diligently. He has seen many Rare Books and his availableinformation is indeed rich. He has engaged in the research of traditional Chinese printing withhis life. He published articles and monographs with substantial contents and significantnumbers in the past. Mr. Zhang is based on ancient library, summarizes the research results ofboth previous researchers and himself and uses his decades of accumulation to write such amasterpiece "China Printing History", which provides a detailed information for the study ofancient engraved book industry and the books.This paper is based on the book "China Printing History", sorts out the part of "The SongEngraved Book Contents" in the book, searches and selects the Song Dynasty block-printededition ascertained in history and makes classification statistics and quantitative analysis ofthe Song Dynasty books according to the traditional "Four" Taxonomy and the modernclassification to get relevant conclusions of the book printing business in Song.
