After the literary movement, the intellectual monopoly gradually disintegrated, and the writing and reading became more accessible to the general public.Later, when the Republic of China was established, education became an important aspect of social construction, and the group of ordinary readers who were different from the traditional intellectual elites was gradually formed. At that time, because of the advocacy of social education and the high price of books which readers could not afford, the tendency of socio-reading spread nationwide.Public education institutions, public libraries, publishing institutions, administrative agencies, schools and other institutions with different social attributes have established their own reading clubs to promote readers' reading activities. In the era of printing, reading is an indispensable part of the process of knowledge dissemination and acceptance. The study of reading history in the West revolves around the six basic questions of "who reads, reads, where, when, why, and how to read," and uses archives such as diaries, annotations, book advertisements, paintings and so on to reproduce readers' readings. Then, the historians are able to explore the possibilities of books(or knowledge)being accepted, distorted, and abandoned by readers in the course of book circulation as well as the socio-cultural ecology of a particular period. This article will use the research method of reading history to conduct in-depth research on the reading club founded by the Republic of China Book Industry.Founded by publishing organizations, book industry reading clubs connect producers and consumers of books directly, and have other commercial characteristics that are not available in other types of reading clubs. This paper first analyzes the background of the reading club from the perspective of reading needs and business needs in the second chapter. The third chapter discusses the operation mode of the reading club as well as the various measures adopted by the book industry reading club based on the member absorption, retention and promotion. The fourth chapter focuses on the external feedback on the reading club, especially the reader's participation, appeal, and motivation, etc. The last chapter reviews the end of the book industry reading club and the reasons why they eventually failed.Generally speaking, although the book industry reading clubs were created under the influence of various factors and lasted for a short time, there is plenty of experience and lessons for today's commercial reading club.
