The optical communication has become commercial since the 70s of 20 century, it plays an important role in our daily life. Access network is a key section of the whole communication system, among them, RoF and PON are attractive schemes.RoF, converging the technologies of optical and wireless communications, is a new research filed. It can transmit wireless service with a date rate over Gb/s, which enables significant applications in future high-speed wireless communication system.1. Convergence of wireline and wireless services in RoF systemIn our daily life, some users choose wireline access, while other would like wireless access. As a result, it is cost-effective and useful to simultaneously transmit wireline and wireless signals in an integrated platform. To realize this application, we present two novel proposals.1) Generation of FSK signal based on a single-drive MZM in a bi-directional RoF system.With a simple architecture, we can achieve simultaneous transmission of ASK, OCS-ASK and FSK signals using only a single-drive MZM. At the receiver, the ASK signal is detected to be wireline signal and provided to wireline users, the OCS-ASK signal is recovered to be wireless signal and supplied to wireless users, and the FSK signal is used as the upstream carrier to transmit upstream data.2) Generation of multiband signal based on a single-drive MZM in a bi-directional RoF system.A multiband signal, consisting of baseband, MW with double frequency and MMW with quadruple frequency, is realized using only a single-drive MZM, which enables a simple and low-cost architecture. 2. Novel Services in PONRapid progress is needed for access network to meet the requirement of new services, such as video, HDTV, interactive game and so on. As a high potential candidate of access network, PON also needs great improvement to provide cost-effective, flexible and reliable services. In our works, we provide a novel scheme of WDM-PON scheme, which supports simultaneous transmission of three types of services:p-t-p, multicast and broadcast services. This structure has great applications in real life.3. New system for Convergence of RoF and PONRoF and PON have their own advantages and disadvantages, so it is desirable to converge their individual advantages in an integrated RoF and PON system. A new proposal is provided for convergence of RoF and PON:60-GHz RoF and WDM-PON converged system, in this system, we realize the convergence of 60-GHz RoF and WDM-PON system, where only n+1 modulator and lasers are used for n WDM channels, enabling a cost-effective architecture.
