In January 1996, Guangzhou Daily Group which is the first newspaper group announced its establishment. That's the start point of the new page in China's newspaper history. Until now, there are 49 newspaper groups in total across the whole China. Chinese newspaper group appeared more than 100 years later compared with the West. As the well-known Chinese specialties, and they appeared a short time, there is unusually complex set. Meantime, Chinese newspaper group tested each step before taking it advance cautiously.This thesis sorted out the 13 years history of the management of the Chinese newspaper group, including academic researches, practical experiences and the existing problems. On base of that, this thesis attempted to provide some valuable suggestions. The thesis consisted of five chapters. Chapter One introduced the background and value of this research, and then reviewed the research history of management of Chinese newspaper group. Chapter Two explored the concept of corporation management and clarified how valuable it was when managing the newspaper group. Chapter Three discussed the status, special political attributes, and the existing problems of the management of Chinese newspaper group. Also, the author did some case studies of some typical newspaper groups and got some conclusion of their management structures. Chapter Four focused on Chinese newspaper group governance that exist in a number of problems, put forward some recommendations and solutions. Chapter Five provided the current internal governance structure set forth some specific ideas of Chinese newspaper group.This thesis considered that Chinese newspaper group was doomed to be a combination of public utility and company, which led their management structures to be a combination of party-leading-system and corporate governance. Reasons were as follows: The governance structure of Chinese newspaper group was formed under the administrative framings. The party should lead the press. Editing and management must to be separated. The newsrooms in the press were still public utilities and under the administrative system. While the AD and publish departments in the press needed to work at the market under corporation structures. The two sides must set up cooperative system.The thesis did not provide a new set of perfect model for management of Chinese newspaper group. But the author sorted out the corporation management history of Chinese newspaper group of the past 13 years and provided valuable conclusions for the further research.
