Since the first national newspaper group—Guangzhou newspaper group had beenestablished in 1996, a large number of newspaper groups quickly emerged. So far, there havebeen 40 newspaper groups approved by the central committee departments. Along with thenewspaper group's development process, the "one newspaper monopoly" situation in newspapergroups becomes increasingly prominent. Among them, "sub-newspaper monopoly"phenomenon is particularly prevalent. This kind of structure of newspaper group will havetremendous influence to its sustainable development. But at present, domestic experts andscholars and media practitioners have not yet carried out a deep research on this issue. In view ofthis, starting from the "one newspaper monopoly" phenomenon, the paper examines the nationalnewspaper group's development mode and sustainable development.Based on the process of the newspaper group's establishment, the article analyses therealistic significance and various reasons of "one newspaper monopoly" phenomenon. The papertakes Henan newspaper group and its sub-newspaper "Dahe daily" as a typical case. Throughintroducing Henan's media ecological environment where Henan newspaper group and itssub-newspaper "Dahe daily" locate and analyzing the complex relationship between thenewspaper group's main newspaper and sub-newspapers, the author thoroughly researches theunique conditions which form the "one newspaper monopoly" pattern of"Dahe daily", as well asthe rationality and necessity. Meanwhile, According to the current problems of domesticnewspaper groups, the study compares the advantages and disadvantages about the differentdevelopment models. Finally, the article analyses and forecasts the prospect of newspapergroup's "one newspaper monopoly" phenomenon.
