With the development of economy and the progress of science and technology, the optical fiber sensing technology is playing an important role and becoming more and more popular in various areas of national economy. However,the optical fiber sensing information is mostly locally demodulated, which is hardly to meet such needs as remote monitoring for multipoint and centralized real-time processing. On the one hand,a single communication line between the sensor field and information monitoring center is very costly, but on the other hand,the existing communication network is well developed and widespread.Therefore,the latter is an economic way to transmite sensing information.We introduce the research and development trend about FBG networks at home and abroad and make a design of transmission to use Ethernet to transmite optical fiber sensing information.In addition,the techniques about the design are well discussed in the paper.First of all, we discuss today's mainstream access networks.They not only have many virtues but also have some defects. After comparison ,we decide to adopt the Ethernet as transmission channel between sensing site and information monitoring center. Our main thought is to encapsulate sensing information into the Ethernet frame as ordinary data. Namely, Ethernet is treated as a data transmission channel regardless of details of sensing information.Secondly, all kinds of agreements and norms are introduced. In view of the system has star-topology, the master/from agreement is used for norms to query sensing data. In addition, we simplify the normal TCP/IP according to requirements of design.We can see that the function of communication is realized and the system's resources are saved.Finally, some simulations are done based on the platform of VC++6.0.The results of experiments and programs prove the reliability and validity of the design.
