This paper proposes a design solution of wired and wireless Ethernet-based remote monitoring system. And this solution is verified through related software and hardware design. The hardware of wired Ethernet-based sensor node is designed with the Microchip's PIC18F97J60 chip which embeds a 10Base-T Ethernet controller. It enables the sensor node to communicat with remote monitoring PC, through transplant the TCP/IP protocol stack to the chip. In addition, in order to store the web page, the processor chip expands an EEPROM. So when the sensor node is as a HTTP server, the remote PC can access the web page in the EEPROM and achieve remote monitoring. Meanwhile, the solution has a LCD design in the circuit, which is used to display the temperature value and the text message sent by the remote motoring PC.In consideration of the wired Ethernet-based sensor having a deployment limitation, the paper also proposes a design solution of wireless WiFi-based sensor. This hardware is designed with ZeroG's ZG2100M which is a low power wirelesss chip. And this chip could be seamlessly compatible with PIC18F97J60 processor chip. About to the hardware design of wireless-based sensor, we just need to connect the WiFi circuit module to wired Ethernet-based sensor node by SPI interface.According to the solution proposed in the paper, the PC needn't to use the special software to manage the sensor node. As to the web-based acess design, the remote PC can monitor and control all sensor nodes just by a normal browser. In addition, the sensor node can be easy deployed, because it has function of both wireless and wired communication. The sensor node can be deployed in single wireless or wired network, and can also mix deploy.
