With the gradually improvement of information technology application level, the domestic tobacco enterprises make great progress in its own production management by improving production automation and introducing advanced management system. How to solve the information flow problem between process automation and management becomes urgent. MES fills this gap. By emphasizing the overall optimization of manufacturing process, the enterprises can achieve a complete closed-loop production, get a comprehensive automation module integrated control, optimization, scheduling, management and operation.This paper is based on the MES program in Zhengzhou Cigarette Factory, discusses the overall system architecture and each division of the process. Take scheduling, the main function in MES, as an example, it designed from the function structure, single data structure and carried out the scheduling function of tobacco-manufacturing and packaging. Based on the analysis of cigarette manufacturing process technics, it researched the production scheduling module and the method to optimize it. It chose a scheme combined Petri module and genetic algorithm, optimized the tobacco manufacturing module by genetic algorithm method, and finally achieved optimal production order. On how to integrate with the enterprise information effectively, this paper researched the integration which is combining XML technology-based MES and ERP system, and the integration has partly implemented in Zhengzhou Cigarette Factory.
