In view of the bottleneck problems of servers and bandwidth during the broadcast of the high-definition video of surgical on demand, this thesis proposed a solution based on peer-to-peer (p2p) which transforms the BitTorrent to a steaming media system. Firstly, with the current problem of veterinary surgery teaching in Zhenzhou College of Animal Husbandry Engineering as a starting point in consideration, this thesis proposed a solution of high-definition video network teaching; secondly, this thesis analyzed the structure and principle of existing C/S streaming media system, pointed out the inadequacy of existing steaming media system of high-definition video-on-demand, and put forward a P2P solution concerning the streaming media on-demand system; thirdly, this thesis proposed a p2p streaming media transmission mechanism based on self-adaptive sliding window, and solved the problems of single-point failure and server and bandwidth bottleneck of the traditional streaming media system, resulting in a campus streaming media system which can support High-definition video on demand with robustness and scalability; finally, the thesis designed and realized the streaming media system of campus network, validated feasibility of the proposed scheme, and analysed its performance efficiency. The p2p Multimedia-on-demand system based on BitTorrent' open-source codes employed a pattern of playing while downloading, and the video file was divided into pieces to be multi-point transported. The pattern enables each participant node to be both service consumers and providers, therefore eliminates the bottleneck of traditional Multimedia-on-demand System. During the transmission process, request strategy for pieces is the kernel of the system. BitTorrent is a complex file-sharing and downloading software with no real-time requirement and is not suitable for streaming media player; in order to achieve the streaming media playback, a sliding window mechanism is introduced into the system to effectively standardize the request order of pieces division. After a thorough analysis of the system, and in order to further reduce the playing delay in the download process, the thesis proposed the getting pieces strategy and the selecting partner nodes strategy. These mechanisms optimize the p2p transmission performance and improve bandwidth utilization, avoid wasting bandwidth. Under the conditions of the existing network, the system meets the needs of multi-users for high-definition video-on-demand.The experimental test methods adopted in this thesis is relatively simple, but the result can visibly and accurately reflect the situation of the data receiving of the client-side and approves the feasibility of the system. The result of experiment and the research analysis proved that the using of P2P in the streaming media can optimize system performance, reduce the pressure of server-side I/O and network bandwidth. The improved system can by easily deployed, have a high capacity of being expanded, support a significant increase in the number of concurrent users. Without any additional hardware investment, the system based on p2p streaming media improve the playback quality, expand the scale of the network teaching, and improve the quality ofteaching, and thus has certain theory and practical significance.
