The workloads of testers are increasing as modern testing becoming more and more complex. So we design ATS (Automatic Test System) instead of the original manual tests. ATS not only eliminates human error, but measures the performance of TD-SCDMA base station products more accurately and efficiently; meanwhile it can process test results, and automatically generate test report.The automatic test systems can complete the extensive testing projects in a relatively short period of time, and improve the accuracy and stability of test results; and the user interface is friendly, which is easy for testers to operate and greatly reduces the workload of the testers.The ATS is primarily consisted of PC, ATS application software program, RF unit, and signal generator and Spectrum Analyzer. A test engineer operates the test instruments and RF unit with test software on PC, enabling the collection of test data, analytical processing and display the data, the final auto-generated test report. The software of ATS with graphical LabVIEW, modular and structured programming, and the perfect combination of hardware enables ATS with good control performance, scalable, and reusable.This article firstly introduces the basic theory of ATS, describes the development, composition and characteristics of test system; and describes the basic knowledge of TD-SCDMA System, summarizes the principles and methods of the test project.Secondly, the article analyzes test requirements, developing an overall design scheme, and designs for the hardware and software. The hardware design is the selection of hardware and formation of the test bed; the software design included automatic testing procedures, calibration procedures of test instruments and so on. The authors focus on the principle of Network Analyzer calibration and the detail design process of calibration program.
