It is 1922, in which year automatic watch was made out, when automatic mechanismcame to our attention. Since that time then, almost every watchmaker has put themechanism into their movements. It is convenient to wind the watch only by swingingour arms, so that automatic mechanism becomes a basic function of wristwatch.Many watchmakers put ETA2824 into their watches just because of its stability.The classical, original and unique design of the automatic mechanism in theaforementioned caliber makes assembling and maintaining easy. And the stability alsobrings benefit.The paper focuses on the automatic mechanism of ETA2824, explains its workingprinciple and makes a full-scale introduction of the important parts as well as the keypoints in design and production. It deeply analyses different typical kinds of automaticmechanism, including ratchet-click type escapement style reversing wheel, disengageddevice and the slide mainspring. In the analysis, the paper discloses its working theory,key points in design and shows the computation process of S-shape mainspring design.It researches the choosing of the natural parameters . The paper also covers the analysisof the semi-automatic watch, including its working principle, winding effect as well asthe factors should be noticed in design. It holds a comparison between automatic watchand semi-automatic one and simply introduces the new types which come out in recenttime and forecasts the trends of design.
