The tracking or ETC system of the whole expressway is an important application of RFID technology. It makes the RFID as a sign of the vehicle identification, recording the path of the vehicle, so as to identify its information and solve the multi-path or traffic jam problems on highway. Background on actual project(Science and Technology Department of Zhejiang, 2008C21145), basing on the Cortex-M3 ARM and GPRS functional design, this paper unifies the RFID technology and SoC principles, discussing how to design the RFID equipment which can receive the data of RFID tags in high-speed and long-range, then encode and transmit the data to data management center through the GPRS network.Firstly, basing on the principle of functional modularity and the researching of 2.4GHz SoC nRF24LE1, we designed the active RFID tag and RF control systems, solving the problem of data structures encoding, anti collision, RF transfer and low-power by software. Secondly, through researching the Cortex-M3 ARM and GPRS module MC35i, we designed the RFID control cores and GPRS functional unit, encoded the program drive to accomplish the function of calibrating information, communicating with RF control unit for RFID tag identification, and with GPRS functional unit for dates transfers. Finally, it proved that the RFID reader can read and write dates of the RFID tags over a long distance more than 50 meters by debugging the equipment. Further tests show the equipment can works reliably, perform better, and with low cost, low power etc., besides, it also can be used in path identification for the dynamic vehicle on highway.
