The "Interactive Digital Classroom", developed by the research team of Software College of ECNU, was displayed in the VIP exhibition hall of China Pavilion of Shanghai World Expo and attracted the visitors'attention. Meanwhile, it was reported by Xinmin Evening News that students would possibly say good-bye to heavy schoolbags with the spread of E-textbooks nationwide within 5 years, which attracted great attention in China. Numerous seminars on E-textbooks have been held since the appearance of readers of various kinds for e-books. E-textbooks replacing paper-made textbooks is just as natural as paper replacing bamboos to write on. In my opinion, the key issue of the application of E-textbooks in the classrooms is more of the content and design of teaching materials other than technical. Therefore, I recommend that E-textbooks should be imbedded with studying assistance and testing system and that special attention be paid to the content of the teaching materials. The purpose of the application of E-textbooks is to improve the efficiency of teaching and learning by providing the students with a new mode of learning.The thesis provides an analysis of the defects of classroom teaching, such as the lack of personal guidance according to the performance of each student, and the laggard evaluation of teaching and learning. Consequently, it is necessary to build a new mode of learning characterized by timely testing, timely feedback, timely guidance, timely communication, and provision of assistance on demand so as to boost students'learning efficiency. Many research areas are involved in the research on E-textbook, while my paper focuses on three aspects:how to define E-textbooks, how to design E-textbooks, and the technology to rely on.The first aspect is how to define E-textbooks. After the consultation of relevant information and the comparison of existing definitions of E-textbook, I bring about the connotation of E-textbook both in the narrow and broad sense in correspondent to the focus of my research.The second aspect is how to design e-textbooks. The present author talked to teachers and students on the low efficiency of classroom teaching, and put forward the optimal mode for the design of e-textbooks through an analysis of the needs of both teachers and students. This mode is characterized by its being textbook-centered, learning support and testing being incorporated into the whole process of teaching and learning, and therefore, providing an efficient learning environment for primary and middle schools.The third aspect is what kind of technology to rely on. The author studied on currently popular development technology, took into account the features of e-textbooks, and chose the web-based Flex+.NET.
