With the rapid development of information society, information related work is critical for the organizations. As a key human resource factor to the success of information work, information professional plays an important role in the growth and development of organizations. However, the amount of researches on human resources management of information professional is very less. In this context, this paper conducts a preliminary study on the competences of information professionals, so as to pave a way for future research on information professional human resource management.To enhance the objectivity of this paper, two methods, advertisement text mining and network surveys, are applied to construct information professional competence model. Advertisement text mining is to extract the competence Key words of information professional and to provide preliminary structure of competency model. Based on the results of text mining the information professional competence questionnaire is formed and implemented in a network survey. Conduct single factor analysis of variance and factor analysis on questionnaire, on one hand, to verify the competency model structure obtained from text mining, on the other hand, to further explore the differences among variables of model.The main innovations of this paper are:on the theory aspect, define and classify the information career; introduce the concept of information professional competence. On the practice aspect, this is the first attempt to build information professional competency model. On the tools and methods aspect, the text mining method is used to competency modeling process.The main contents and structures of this paper are:Chapter One describes the background, significance, content, framework, methods and innovation of this research. Chapter Two summarizes the foreign and domestic researches of information professional and competence.Chapter Three presents the definition of career information, information career classification, the concept of information professional competence, and proposes the hypotheses of this research.Chapter Four conducts the text mining on information professional related advertisement of different organizations to refines the competency items, and analyzes the content of each item so as to form the "Information Professional Competence Questionnaire".Chapter Five analyzes the results of the questionnaire to obtain the competence structure of information professional by factor analysis, the impact of individual characteristics factors, industry factors and job factors on competency by single factor analysis and obtain information professional competency model according to the results of means analysis and main factor analysis.Chapter Six provide the conclusion and outlook of this research.
