Research On The Communication Mode Between The Control Units For The Set-top Boxes Based On ARM Embedded System

In recent years, STB has undertaken a rapid development, which will change our current concept television and also provide a new consumer terminal for internet, a consumer terminal more popular, convenient, attractive than any other terminals such as PC, mobile phone, and PDA. Meanwhile, application technology of embedded system in digital TV set-top box becomes more and more mature, which will play a positive role for the development and promotion of digital television set-top boxes.This Paper mainly deals with the communication mode between the control units for digital TV set-top box based on ARM and embedded systems, namely the communication between the ARM and the FPGA, and the realization of communication between serial interface and the chip STi7105.The main contents of this Paper include the following aspects:(1) The migration of Embedded Linux operating system. This mainly focus on building a software environment, which is the basis of this Paper. The main tasks for transplantation of embedded Linux operating system are:installation of virtual machine, configuration of minicom, preparation of cross compiler tool chain, clipping and transplantation of Linux kernel, and the preparation and transplantation of file systems.(2) Study and research on SPI bus protocol and the IIC bus protocol. This is the basis for the realization of communication between the ARM and EPGA.(3) The definition of custome three-wire protocol based on the existing communication protocol. With the consideration of cost economy and technology problems, the three-wiring protocol is defined to solve the practical problems in specific development projects in respect of the communication between the FPGA and ARM.(4) Research and study on serial communication interface. The principles and character of serial communication interface are figured out, which provides the basis for the realization of communication between the serial port and the chip STi7105.(5) Study and research on the programming and coding of driver and application under the Linux operating system. With the foregoing familiarization of coding and programming driver and application under Linux operating system, the coding and programming of driver and application for three-wiring protocol is made under the Linux operating system as well as the communication application program between the serial port and the chip STi7105. After all, a good realization of communication between the control units is made.
