With the development of the science and techology, the embedded system has came into our lifetime. how to realize the function of the 802.11b WLAN based on Intel SSP serial port which includes high-speed and reliability of data transfer in the PXA270 embedded system platform is the main goal of this paper.The principle of WLAN and the 802.11 series with the emphasis on the protocol of the 802. 11b are first introduced in this paper, next the platform which the task bases on is described, and then the implementation of the hardware platform, which consists of the PXA270 development board and the 802.11b WLAN NIC module, is given. And the introduction of the Windows CE5. 0 Operating System with the communication services & networking and the NDIS driver model are followed.. Finally, the performance optimization to the driver of the miniport is performed and the test data is given by experiments.The difficulty of the task lies on the software design and performance optimization of the miniport driver for the NIC module. After several tests, the final implementation has met the designed requirement: the realization of the application based on the 802.11b WLAN and the capability of high-speed and reliability of the data transfer with low-power consumption..
