Tools are important fixtures of mechanical processing,with the increasing popularity ofmachine tools and machining centers and increasingly higher workpiece machining accuracyrequirement, tool parameters test becomes particularly important. The traditional toolparameters measurement means is of low measurement precision and poor efficiency, andanthropic factors have great influence,which cannot satisfy modernized productionrequirements. Machine vision technology has is fast,high precision,contactless and can bearerlarge volume of information, In this paper, machine vision technology is applied to toolparameters testing and a tool parameters testing system is researched.Firstly, This paper make a detail description of machine vision technology features andadvantages and the status of tool parameters testing is analyzed, which is the main point of theresearch. In additon, the overall program of test system is designed at last.Then, the imagingsystem design is completed,According to the system overall plan and the general selectionprinciples, we select appropriate light source, video camera, etc and determine theillumination way; With the caculation of the index parameters of lens, optimization usingoptical software ZEMAX, fixed-focus "double gauss is determine " as the lens structure oftest system after repeated debugging and modification. In this paper, the lens is designed onthe basis of index parameters of imaging sysyem hardwares and tools ,the image acquisitionerror is reduced. After that, image acquisition and the related image processing technology areintroduced in detail. In the phase of image processing, we make theoretical and experimentalresearch on related algorithms and select the histogram specification and median filter as themeans of contrast enhancing and image noise filtering. After Single thresholdsegmentation,the tools image can be processed by closed morphology processing effectivelyfor removing the irrelevant structure. Among the commonly used edge detection methods ,Canny edge detection operator can detect clear cutting tool edge, which has relatively highpositioning accuracy. At the end of this paper, we complete the software programming and debugging by usingMAQ Vision module in LabVIEW software platform. The modular thought is adopted anddifferent function programs is compiled into corresponding sub-VI. Milling cutter and turningtool blade is tested in order to verify the performance and effect of the test system.
