Computer vision inspection is an important method of modern industry inspection. With the enhancing of printing speed and more and more strict with request of printing quality, traditional methods which detect the defects of the printed matter with eyes can not work well because of the subjective aspects. Development of computer techniques and image processing techniques accelerate the spread and application of computer vision inspection technique.As a new technology in test and has been developed at a quick pace control field, Virtual Instrumentation (VI for short) in recent years, which results in the advent of one of its important branche: the VI-based Machine Vision System. The IMAQ Machine Vision of LabVIEW can provide a powerful image processing functions such as edge detection, image calibration, filtering, image extraction, threshold segmentation, Mathematical Morphology processing, pattern matching and so forth. It can greatly shorten the software development time.A machine vision system based on LabVIEW (a virtual instrument platform) is developed with IMAQ Vision toolset to check the quality of color printing in the paper. First, according to the characteristics of the machine vision system Based on IMAQ,the system's hardware structure has been established in the paper, and the hardware components has been selected; Secondly, we compared and analysis typical imagery processing algorithm,then aim at the types of printed mater. By improved the traditional detection method, we put forward the corresponding detection algorithm which can improve the system's accuracy and the degree of automation and proved its feasibility. Finally, we use LabVIEW developed by NI Corporation, to realize the Construction of system platform.Theoretical study and practical experiments proved the efficiency and the feasibility of the method for inspection of printing registration, printing position and printing smear provided in this paper. At the same time as the hardware and software of NI Corporation have very good reliability and stability which can ensure the accuracy of test results.
