Triple-play is an inevitable trend of the development of modern information technology. It is the integration of the broadcast television network, telecommunication network and computer network operation. It is supposed to be a general information network in the world. It doesn't mean the physical combination, but the integration of the highly business management. After integrating, the technology will be more and more consistent, the network will be commutative perfectly, the business will be intersectant. In this stage, the access network for triple-play technology research is necessary and significant.Especially on July 1, the state department office promulgated formally for the list of the first triple-play integration cities. It indicated the beginning to inplement a country triple-play integrated strategic plan. Xiamen is approved to be one of the first triple-play integration cities. According to the from the state department office and the requirement of the Industial and information department, Xiamen government, China Unicom, According to the actual situation of Xiamen Unicom, Xiamen Unicom made a strategy to deploy the broadband optical fibres to home and speed up the broadband generally.The paper will focus on the access network technology of the PON technology. Also, it will analyze the broadband development in Xiamen Unicom, expatiate the the feasibility of FTTH construction, compare the EPON and GPON technology, and also advise the effective construction program of the access network. It's the FTTH construction mode based on the GPON technology. The paper includes the following aspects:1. A brief analysis for the practice strategy of the several broadband access network technologies.2. Detailed description for the technology principles, system structure and operational capacity of EPON/GPON.3. Expatiate the evolvement and development of PON technology.4. Analyze the mode of the broadband access network construction in Xiamen Unicom.5. Expatiate that the FTTH based on the GPON technology will be the best construction program of the access network.
