Video capture technology has been widely using in diverse field, such as communication, medical and national defense and so on, sucessfully achieving a powerful and flexible video capture system will be in the limelight in the future. The method of video capture system keeps changing, from early based on A/D converter chip, CPLD, and PCI bus capture system to new video capture based on Special capture chip, FPGA, and USB bus, nowadays. We can reach the conclusion without any doubt that video capture system will become a video Processing platform in which integrates kinds of function.In this paper, it focuses on the design of video capture system. Firstly, it introduces the significance of video capture technology and the development of video capture system. Secondly, it also illustrates the theory of video signal, including the video signal that system allows the transmission of analogue video signal, video A/D convert, and digital video format. Thirdly, to better understand the structure, characteristics, operation principle of the chip used in system; it conducts further study on the datasheet of the chip. What is more, it independently puts forward our own system. To successfully achieve that goal, it designs system circuit schematic diagram, complete PCB placing and routing, and print circuit board and welded successfully. The development of system software, including USB Firmware and sequential control of SDRAM, is also included in its work. After debugging, finally, a system which can work well is available, and it successfully acquires video data and obtains video image with the system.
