With the exploration and development of marine resources, underwater robots because of its commercial and military significance and the enormous technical challenges, has attracted more and more scientists and technician's attention, and has been done a lot of research works. As the handling facilities in the water and bearing platform for observation instruments, underwater robot's visual capacity is played a very important role. Video image is a major source of visual information, so there is a higher level of demands of a variety of Video Capture System's performance, small size and low power consumption are two of the most important characteristics. The thesis designed an FPGA-based video capture system. In this system, selected Altera's Cyclone series chip EP1C6Q240C8 as the core device, video capture and output section used SAA71XX series that widely used. This system not only has made full use of superiority of FPGA device in the video processing aspects, enhancing the performance and increasing the flexibility, but also has satisfied the demand of the different video format. The system has the superiority of performance, the design flexibility the ability of clipping function flexibility, excellent integration and so on. The design of system made full use of the advantages of parallel processing and embedded DSP module in FPGA. Because of adding reasonable hardware acceleration to system, the speed of processing is enhanced, hardware cost is saved and power consumption is cut down. Finally, the functional verification is done on the system. The results show that the system can meet the requirements of functional and processing time. It has great practical value.
