High-Resolution Imaging Sonar plays an irreplaceable role in the visualization of underwater target. It also has extensive application prospects in many fields, and is increasingly valued by people. Take the development of high-resolution image sonar as the background, this paper mainly studied the software development and the hardware design of the image sonar digital system.Because of its great number of primitives, high sampling frequency and large volumes of data, the real-time collection, transmission, storage of data and the real-time imaging are so difficult that we must develop a high-speed real-time data transmission system and design a fast algorithm for real-time imaging.This paper firstly develops the system software of the high-speed data acquisition and transmission for image sonar, realizes the real-time and high-speed acquisition, transmission, storage of the 32-way primitive data and the non-real-time and high-speed acquisition, transmission, storage of the 160-way primitive data. Besides, the control system software of image sonar is also designed, which achieved the control of the transmitter and receiver from the host computer. Then, the imaging algorithm of image sonar is studied and simulated systematically. The influence on the imaging performance due to different orders of the low-pass filter when doing orthogonal transformations is demonstrated. Besides, the influence on the imaging performance made by different interpolation algorithms when doing fast orthogonal transform is also studied. According to the research results talked above, band-pass filtering and quadrature demodulation are implemented in the FPGA. Meanwhile, the orthogonal transform is realized in the DSP. In the end, the design of the digital processing platform for the new image sonar system is completed.The results of systems co-debugging and pool test showed that the design in this paper meets the technical requirements and fulfills the planned targets.
