The H1N1 influenza is a global public health crisis which is handled with enormous discretion by countries around the world. Being the disseminator of information in human society, media and its function is imperative and essential in the prevention of the influenza. Media influence the public's perception of the disease and behavior when handling the disease. The differing social systems and media systems of nations around the world determine their media content has its own characteristics.Based on the framework of media comparative research, employing the methods of content and text analysis, this thesis tries to find and describe the similarities and discrepancies of news coverage about the H1N1 influenza published on the People's Daily and the New York Times from April 27 to May 27 in 2009, in order to find out the characteristics of Chinese media when reporting public health crisis.
