The Overhead Contract System(OCS), as the main power supply equipment of the electric railway, has an important effect on its safety. In the various failures of Catenary equipment, the damage of electric burning is the most serious for it is difficult to be discovered in advance. Therefore, it has already begun to attract more and more attentions of the electrical apply and reparation section.Therefor it's necessary to measure the temperature of key points of OCS, to prevent the occurrence of electrical burning, as well as to guarantee the normal power supply continuously. ZigBee, as the main communication pmtocol in low rate wireless sensor network, has the merits of simple agreement, low power, strong network ability, large network capacity, short delay, safety, reliability and low cost,etc. In this paper, with the OCS on-line monitoring as the background, a deep analysis and study of ZigBee have been conducted, and a temperature on-line monitoring system based on ZigBee is designed to achieve the real-time data acquisition and wireless transmission.Firstly, the inportance and the conditions of OCS on-line monitoring is introduced, Then the concepts, technical features and network configuration of ZigBee are introduced. IEEE 802.15.4 standards and ZigBee protocol stack, focused on the function of NWK, PHY, MAC and APL architecture are introduced too.Secondly, research and analysis the types of fault and the reasons of the damage of OCS equipments electric burning, and some advices to prevent electrical burning questions are gived. And an OCS devices temperature on-line monitoring system based on ZigBee is proposed, which is a lot sense for the prevention of the demage of electrical burning.Finally, the realization of a temperature on-line monitoring system based on ZigBee is proposed. The node hardware design and software design by applying IAR development platform and Z-Stack Protocol Stack, as well as a PC monitor interface design using VB.NET programming language are completed. Debugging result indicated that this system can realize data collection through wireless communication, and the result meet the expected requirement.
