Nowadays, information technology is becoming more and more important to improve the productivity of agriculture, especially for real time environment monitoring. The wireless sensor network is one of the important methods to realize agriculture informationization. It is an emerging researching area with multi-discipline interleaving. It integrates sensor technology, embedded computation technology, network and wireless communication technology and distributed information processing technology. It can also detect and collect the information of objects with the collaboration of different kind of sensors.Compared to the traditional method of environmental data collection, the wireless sensor network has the advantages of larger monitored region and more accurate data.In this paper, according to the requirements of low cost and micromation in agriculture habitat monitoring,a WSN-based environment monitoring system is proposed. The background and current progress of wireless sensor network is first introduced the paper in detail and the importance for the research is expounded.Second, based on the analysis of the characteristics and requirements of environment monitoring,an intelligent environmental monitoring system based on wireless sensor networks has been implemented, and the key technologies need to be solve are presented. The investigation focuses on system configuration and the hardware of nodes in this system. The design requirements of the processor module, wireless communication module and sensor module are put forward. Moreover, two schemes for realizing the nodes by using ATmega128+CC1000+SHT10 and JN5139+SHT10 are given.Third, the wireless communication protocols and the coverage and connectivity problems are analyzed.Based on the analysis, the tree topology, area coverage and static deployment are considered suitable for the application.Fourth, the transmit performance of the system was analyzed by compared experimental data with those of familiar wireless path loss models. The result shows the transmit distance is up to 300 meters.Furthermore,by using the software Code::Blocks,a prototype based on the scheme of JN5139+SHT10 is applied in cropland, barn and upland grassland to collect the variations of temperature and humidity. The system evaluation and experimental results show the effectiveness and reliability of the system in collecting information within monitored region. Finally,it summarizes the investigation and indicates the prospect for further work.
