With the development of technology and the progress of civilization,human need more and more information than yesterday.A new wireless communication technology——ZigBee was emerged under this background.It specializes in wireless ad hoc network which applys to short distance,low speed and low power consumption situation.It use global free frequency band in 2.4GHz and follows IEEE 802.15.4 standard to formulate for personal area network communion.Today,solution base on ZigBee technology has covered these areas:smart management of energy and efficiency,industrial automatic control,home automatic control,personal health care,bulding automation,PC peripherals,cousumer electronics,telecom sercices and rerail sercices.Routing technology is one of key technologys in ad hoc network.it is the core of network layer and can significant impact the transmission efficiency of information,survivability life of network,right decision by control node and so on.So,how to realize a convenient and effective routing is the hotest item in researching.This paper analyzed the development history and application prospect of ZigBee technology and studyed every layers of the architecture and researched and discoursed the thought and theory of ZigBee routing protocol and set up a Windows+Cygwin+NS-2.27 simulation platform for ZigBee routing protocol.Then,ZigBee routing protocol was simulated on this platform.And simulated AODV,DSR and ZigBee routing protocol using star,tree and mesh of topological structure when other things being equal in tcl script.Improvement research of ZigBee routing protocol was executed to solve its problem of a large number of routing request packets and made two proposals to improve the TTL of routing request packets and the mode of a routing request packet transmission.The improved ZigBee routing protocol can assign ttl of a routing request dynamically and limit the transmission area.The improved ZigBee routing protocol has shorter delay,smaller routing cost rate and lower energy consumption than original ZigBee routing protocol in simulation test and attained our desired expectation. In the end of this paper is a summary of the whole researching work.Then,the paper point out the shortage and researching direction of next stage and look forward to the future of ZigBee technology.
