With the development of wireless communications, sensors and embedded information processing technology, the wireless sensor networks gradually emerged as a new technology. It has caught the wide attention of the domestic and international scholars. Because the nodes in wireless sensor networks are energy-limited, As an emerging low-cost, low-power wireless communication technology ZigBee wireless sensor networks will gradually replace the traditional wireless sensor networks in future.ZigBee wireless sensor network are formed by the self-organization of nodes, it can be seen as a special Ad Hoc Networks. In order to implement the data transmission between the two nodes, the routing protocol is the key technology. A more effective and more energy-efficient routing protocol is favorable. ZigBee routing protocol combines the Cluster-Tree protocol and AODVjr protocol to balance the routing overhead, deliver ratio and average end-to-end delay of the entire network.Based on the Linux and NS-2.34platform, this thesis simulates the Cluster-Tree, AODVjr and ZigBee routing protocol, and analyzes the simulation results of three routing protocol according to the average end-to-end delay, ratio of packet delivery, average number of hops and overhead of routing control. It indicates that the performance of ZigBee routing protocol is between the Cluster-Tree and AODVjr according to the four performance indicators. It is very suitable for wireless sensor networks.Generally speaking, the existing ZigBee routing protocols use the simple rebroadcasting method during the route discovery, which will lead to the serious broadcast storm, waste of a large number of communication bandwidth and energy, even the extend of the coverage time of broadcast of network. Therefore, the broadcast storm is one of the key issues in ZigBee routing protocol. To solve this problem, a algorithm ZIFA (ZigBee Forward nodes selection Algorithm) in which local control on the forward of broadcast is proposed in this paper. ZIFA mainly uses the idea of set covering and clustering. Finally, on MATLAB platform we simulated the broadcast algorithms of ZigBee routing protocol and ZIFA algorithm, the simulation results indicated that compared with ZigBee, in the ZIFA algorithm the forwarding nodes is fewer, and the received duplicated rebroadcast packets substantially reduced.
