The dometic small and medium high-voltage switchgear manufacturers are mostly still using the traditional two-dimensional CAD technology. Not only the visualization level is low, but also the repetitive work is large. The design flaws always are not exposed until the prototype products have been manufactured. It is time-consuming and very inefficient, and it wastes a great of manpower, materials and product development costs.The enterprise resources and information can not be fully utilized and shared. All of these are hardly to adapt to the increasingly fierce market competition, and hardly to meet the needs of rapid product development. In addition, the products is in the virtual design process, especially as the large-scale three-dimensional design of the high-voltage switchgear products, always tends to produce a lot of parts and components models and related information which are difficult to manage. But these models and information are the valuable knowledge resource for enterprises, and new product design always bases on the reuse and variant design of the old products's parts and components. The parts library of the most current 3D CAD system always just provides GB standard parts which also is not open, so users can not expand and manage the parts library.Based on the above problems, combined with the actual project background, the GW口—126 type series of telescopic outdoor high-voltage isolation switch is taken for an example in this paper to research more deeply about the theoretical methods and implementation of the virtual design for the high-voltage switchgear products based on Inventor, including the feature-based modeling of parts, components virtual assembly, product overall assembly, interference checking, assembly decomposition animation and bi-directional association drawings etc. And then do some research in parametric technology for serialized and standard parts and components. At the same time, also studied the design principles, function modules and implementation methods of the high-voltage switchgear parts library system, and developed the high-voltage switching devices parts library system based on Inventor. This sysytem can achieve not only the seamless integration of the 3D design software but also effective management of the parts models and information which including adding parts, editing parts information, querying parts (Universal query and tree-level multi-attribute query), part-owned assembly association, models and engineering drawings interactive preview, reusing parts and variant design. Another, the system also has good security, sharing and supporting.Not only a kind of thought which can improve the product design efficiency, reduce repetitive work for the enterprise, but also a kind of method which can achieve this industry's own own parts library to reuse or manage the 3D models effectively is provided in this paper. All of these have some guidance for three-dimensional virtual product design and resource management for the enterprise.
