| "Person of the Year" Slection in Southern Weekend is one of the most influential selections in the present chinese medias. From2000 to 2009, the selection has been helding continuously for 10 years. A summary of it can provide some basis to improve its selection, enrich its content, innovate its form, improve its quality, and expand its influence. The summary can provide some reference to the "Person of the Year" selection and other similar selections held by many chinese medias.This paper chooses the Southern Weekend newspaper from 2000 to 2009 as a direct study object, using a method of the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis, adhering to the principles of summarizing and refining ideas by analysizing and interpretating the original data, and making the detailed description and concrete discussion on the 10 years'operation of Southern Weekend.The first chapter divides the 10 years'selection development into four phases and studies a complete selection of the three procedures.The second chapter chooses the theory of agenda-setting as a perspective, and finds the characteristics of the selection activity held by Southern Weekend from three aspects of the relationship between figures and news events, the relationship between the selection activities and then news coverage, and the relationship between the selection activities and later news reports.The third chapter interpretes all the candidates'(n=101) deeds, and shows the three main themes on the social development and change in China in recent 10 years: the rise of modern China in the world, the social reality of contemporary China, and the social transformation of modern China. The three main themes naturally explains the specific meaning of Person of the Year selection criteria in Southern Weekend.The fourth chapter explores the shortcomings of the selection activity in Southern Weekendand, and the author puts forward personal suggestions for improvement from its content and its form. |
