With ever increasing market competition and exploding customer demand, the current management techniques cannot meet the needs of software development corporations. It is important to have a well-designed information management system in order to meet customer needs and facilitate decision-making. This paper tries to combine the software structures of Lotus Domino and IBM databases, and develop an information management system for software development corporations. This powerful and comprehensive management system adopts well-developed enterprise network's server browser software system, uses the network operation system of Windows Server 2003, builds upon the platform of Lotus Domino 6.5 of IBM, and relies on LotusScript and JS as developing language. After research and analysis of market demands, the information management system is designed to have 12 modules: operation management, project management, ISO quality, computer management, human resources management system, comprehensive office management, archiving management, library and drawing management, branch offices management, chief engineers'office, system maintenance, and president response system. The key lies in the project management process, such as project proposing, approval process, project filing, etc. The system uses the workflow techniques in Lotus Domino, establishes the shared database, and eventually standardizes the workflow in the process of project proposing, approving and filing. After analysis of the current situation of the information management systems and future goals in software development corporations, this paper presents the main theories and techniques of the information management system based on the platform of Lotus Domino, the demand and supply of the system, the overall design, database design, and major techniques in the design. The paper also elaborates how to realize the major functions of the system. Lastly, the paper discusses how to further expand the system in the future.
