With the rapid development of computer technology, communication technology, control technology and sensor technology, people are expecting to live in a comfortable, convenient, safe and efficient environment. Under this requirement, the concepts of Smart Home and Home Automation came into being. Using high technologies, Smart Home creates an intelligent and personalized living environment.At present, there are mainly three Smart Home networking technologies, including cable connection, wireless connection and mixed connection. Now, most of the Smart Home networks use cable connection mode, this mode needs to make lots of cabling work in the house, not only costs high, but also exists deficiencies in expansibility and aesthetic properties. With the rapid development of short-distance wireless communication technologies, using wireless communication technologies in Smart Home field is an inevitable trend. In several short-distance wireless communication technologies, wireless sensor network based on ZigBee technology, with its low cost, low power features becomes an ideal solution of indoor sensor networks.Based on the features of indoor environment, the requirements of smart home control network and shortcomings of the current bus technologies, this paper puts forward a kind of wireless mesh control network system based on ZigBee technology for smart home. This paper introduces the origin, technical features and application domain of ZigBee technology. Detailed main function and key technology of the physical layer, the MAC layer, the network layer and the application layer in ZigBee standard, the classical routing algorithms of mesh networks are analyzed in this paper. We elaborate the distributed address assignment mechanism and AODVjr routing algorithm of traditional ZigBee standard in detail, and point out the shortages of these two algorithms. This paper focus on the implementation of stochastic address assignment mechanism, many-to-one routing protocol and the solution of asynchronous links, which are defined in the latest edition ZigBee specification. This paper achieves a wireless mesh smart home control network, three parts are included. They are node hardware platform, network software platform and PC monitor software. The achievement of every part is clearly introduced in this paper. The node hardware platform consists of RF module, power module, status indicating circuit and so on, including MSP430F5438 microprocessor, RF chip CC2520 and RF front end CC2591. The exploitation of network software platform is based on Z-Stack protocol stack which is provided by TI, this paper elaborates the flows of networking and the establishment of binding mechanism. Moreover, this paper designs a smart home control network demo system in LabVIEW. In the end, practical tests are implemented. This system achieves the anticipated requirement, in which the key features of mesh work such as low cost, low energy consumption of ZigBee technology and the functions of self-organizing, self-healing are included.
