Data acquisition is the foundation of measurement and control, and widely used in various engineering fields. In tradition, data acquisition was carried out mostly with data logger, which is cumbersome, of high power consumption and inconvenient to carry. The current research results are mainly limited to wired data acquisition systems, which is suitable for data collection in the better environment, not in the poor-condition.With the development of social needs, the collection environment is more diversified, the data volume more enormous, and the data analysis more complex. So the exploration of a new method for data collection is very important.In this paper, originating from the real need of the on-going data acquisition, the exploration and research for Wi-Fi-based wireless data acquisition system are to be performed in terms of the current data collection problems, with the increasingly sophisticated computer, communication and virtual instrument technology.1. It is determined to adopt wireless data communication on the basis of the comprehensive analysis and comparison on the performances of wired and wireless communication technology. And among the several popular wireless communication technologies, Wi-Fi wireless communication technology, which has the outstanding advantages, is selected.2. On the concept of the virtual instrument, the system development platform and front-end data acquisition modules are explored based on the software and hardware environment in system design and development. LabVIEW is the integrated graphical software development environment with fastest growth, widest use and most powerful function. It provides the tools and functions, easy to apply in data collection, analysis, display and storage, and its graphical data display, especially in measurement and test fields. Therefore, the LabVIEW development platform is the best choice. NI WLS-9234 is mainly used in the field of sound and vibration data acquisition, and the data can be wirelessly transmitted to the distributed monitoring system by the communication protocol,i.e.IEEE 802.11g (Wi-Fi),as a result, the NI WLS-9234 data acquisition card can be chosen as the system front-end data acquisition module.3. With the MAX software driving control data acquisition card, attribute information of the computer and data acquisition card is wirelessly configurated. And the wireless connection is established by the IEEE 802.11g (Wi-Fi) communication protocol. After the overall framework of the data acquisition system is set up, the idea of "first decomposition, last integration" is introduced into the course of design and development in the data acquisition system software. First, design the system front panels with different functions, then the corresponding block diagrams, in which the various functions can be achieved by the code "G". Finally integrate the whole software system with data collection, analysis, processing, and so on.4. In order to give the inspection for wireless data acquisition system, a non-destructive testing experiment-anchoring quality detection is carried out on the site. Two representative testing waveforms are selected from a number of measuring results. The results indicate that the data collection and test results are in good agreement with the realistic situation, proving that the Wireless Data Acquisition System is reliable, practical and advanced.5. In this paper, a new method of data collection is explored, and undergoes a beneficial experiment in the field of non-destructive testing, showing that the wireless data acquisition system based on the virtual instrument will be a potential development in non-destructive testing.
