This article consists of two parts. The first part is the literature review, which includes both traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine research progress of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The second part is clinical study on tonifying Qi and activating blood treatment on type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy with Qi deficiency and blood stasis, which relies on Beijing Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Development Fund Project (Grant QN2015-06).Objective:To observe the clinical effect of tonifying Qi and activating blood treatment on type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients in pattern of Qi deficiency and blood stasis. Methods:A total of 66 patients (include inpatient and outpatient) with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy in pattern of Qi deficiency and blood stasis were recruited from the department of traditional Chinese medicine, Beijing Shijitan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, during July 2015 to January 2016. All patients were numbered according to the order of treatment, and were randomly divided into the treatment group (33 cases) and the control group (33 cases) by the random number table method. The whole patients were given lifestyle intervention and basic therapy to control blood sugar. The control group received mecobalamin 0.5 mg orally,3 times daily, while the treatment group was told to take tonifying Qi and activating blood decoction, one dose and twice daily, as well as to take foot bath with the external-use decoction, one dose and once daily. After 8-weeks therapy, changes of TCM symptoms score, curative effect of TCM syndrome, TCSS score, fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin, motor and sensory nerve conduction velocity of peroneal nerve were observed. We used SPSS 17.0 statistical analysis software to calculate and analysis data. Results:There were 60 cases in final, including 30 in the treatment group,30 in the control group. ①TM symptoms score:TCM symptoms score of the two group was decreased after treatment(P<0.05), the treatment group was superior to the control group(P<0.05).②curative effect of TCM syndrome:The total efficiency of the treatment group was 100%, whereas that of the control group was 10%. The curative effect of TCM syndrome of the treatment group was better than that of the control group(P<0.05).③TCSS score:TCSS score of the two group was decreased after treatment(P<0.05), the treatment group was superior to the control group (P<0.05).ゝasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin:after the treatment, fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin of the treatment group was reduced (P<0.05).In control group, fasting blood glucose was increased(P<0.05), while glycosylated hemoglobin had no significant change((P>0.05).The improvement of fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin of the treatment group was better than that of the control group (P<0.05).05)peroneal nerve conduction velocity:after the treatment, the difference in both motor nerve conduction velocity and sensory nerve conduction velocity of the control group was not significant (P>0.05),and the sensory nerve conduction velocity of the treatment group had no significant change(P>0.05).The motor nerve conduction velocity of the treatment group was increased after the treatment (P<0.05), and it was superior to the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:The clinical curative effects of tonifying Qi and activating blood treatment are superior to mecobalamin for Qi deficiency and blood stasis patients with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy, and they are reflected in the following aspects:①The treatment can effectively relieve the TCM symptoms of DPN patients. ②The treatment can improve the curative effect of TCM syndrome of DPN patients.③The treatment can decrease the TCSS score of DPN patients.④The treatment helps to reduce fasting blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin of DPN patients. ⑤The treatment can increase motor nerve conduction velocity of peroneal nerve of DPN patients.
