With the rapid appearance and development of grid technologies, Grid Information Service is being investigated more and more deeply and widely. Grid Information Service is one of the most important supported techniques in grid, which undertakes the following tasks: describing the existence and attributes about grid resources, managing the life-span of grid resources, collecting and distributing grid resource information, providing united and effective interface of accessing grid information, and monitoring the status of the dynamic grid.CMAG GIS is an important part of meteorologic application grid. It performs managing all kinds of computing resources in the meteorologic grid, and provides the methods of inquiring and monitoring the computing resource. Besides, it provides metadata for the rest grid services. So, it is the kernel service of the meteorologic application grid. What the research in this paper concerns lists as follows:1. We researched into LDAP, which is the key technology in GIS and put forward a 6-element information server model. Secondly, we researched Globus MDS-2 to implement this new model.2. To make up the deficiency of Globus MDS-2 in CMAG GIS, we put forward a kind of information model to illustrate the cluster characteristics and accomplished the information model and information provider of GIS based on cluster system environment.3. We researched and analysed the Gridsphere architecture and portlet technology of GMAG, so as to design and complete the interface of the CMAG GIS based on the CMAG architecture we designed.4. We researched the characteristics of the SMS functions and analysed the structure of the CDP resource code. And then, based on CDP, we researched the function module, hiberarchy and implementary method, including designing the client interface and server based on Portlet. At last we put forward a feasible plan.The research in this paper is very significant for the grid application and the development of grid information system. The project CMAG GIS we have accomplished is very important in managing the meteorologic resource in wide-area and distributed environment. This system has been used in the meteorologic application grid system, and run perfectly.
