Developing an electronic commerce system is a complex project, which must go through the whole software engineering lifecycle including analysis, design, implementation, test and maintenance. We can establish the models of electronic commerce system by using UML and then to develop electronic commerce system based on the models, which is an efficient way to decrease system complexity and to improve the work efficiency of group. Only by developing the system after establishing correct model in analysis and design, can we reduce the cost and risk of development, which can ensure the project to be implemented exactly and smoothly. The study work of author is based on the modern technique of object-oriented modeling, and discusses how to establish model of an electronic commerce system by using UML, RUP and ROSE.At first the main content and mechanisms of UML are introduced in this paper. The basic development process of electronic commerce system by combination UML and RUP is also discussed in detail. The key techniques of modeling based on UML are studied thoroughly in this paper. The research of key techniques main include how to modeling for the architecture of electronic commerce system and how to modeling for the Web elements, also include how to check the consistency and correctness of these models. At last, in the background of the development of an electronic commerce system, We have established the use-case models, static structure models and dynamic behavior models of system by using UML. The whole development process including analysis, design, implementation is also described in detail, which is valuable for developing electronic commerce system.
