Passing long term progress, three world-class Object Oriented experts of Rational company, Grady Booch, Ivar Jacobson and Jim Rumbaugh, establish the well-known Unified Modeling Language (UML) ultimately, which form a stability theory foundation of Visual Modeling, expending the forepart production of Object Oriented technology. Nowadays, Rational company has take the approximately position in Object Oriented Computer Aided Software Engineering field just like the Microsoft in the Operating System field.UML is well defined, comprehensibly, supporting the whole development process form requirement analysis to system implementation. But how to apply Visual Modeling technology to figure out the main problem appeared in software development process, and develop the integrated supporting modeling environment for UML is still the hotspot now. Academe is really make an effort in the integrated environment and development method aspect based on UML. Rational creates flexible software development process for Unified Modeling Language, and establish a iteratively integrated development framework based on UML with Rational Rose as the kernel. This paper will take thorough research to Rational Development Process from the point of view of theory.On the guidance of theory, this paper will simulate the first iterative procedure of Rational Development Process using a really business case completely. The integrated development environment is consist of Rational Rose 98 Enterprise Edition, Rational SoDA for Word, Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 and Microsoft WORD 97.However, it is not so easy to control Rational Development Process especially in operation principle yet. The Software Engineering Institute's (SEI) Capability Maturity Model (CMM) provides a well-known benchmark of software process maturity. The CMM has become a popular vehicle for assessing the maturity of an organization's software process in many domains. This paper describes how the Rational Development Process can support anorganization that is trying to achieve CMM Level-2 (Repeatable) and Level-3 (Defined) software process maturity levels.The establishment of UML and Rational Development Process bring convulsing impact to academe and the application of Information Technology. Particularly, the impact to Enterprise Application Integration, including Enterprise Resource Planning, is distinguished which will be described in this paper later. Of course, no matter technology, integration degree, development process or project management level are take quite great progress then before, it is still exist some limitation in Rational integrated development environment when I simulate the Rational Development Process. This paper will also expatiate on the lack and development trend of Rational product family on the point of myself.In fact, owing to can not really go deep into the soul of UML and Rational Development Process, many benefits are not be experienced yet. But what is assuredly is that UML will dominate the software system analysis and design field in the future absolutely, and be adopted by most of the system analyst and software engineer.
